I had lot of thoughts yesterday night after catching up with Higurashi Gou, so this is just me trying to mark them down. Spoilers.

Rika

Like, wanting to get away from the place you’ve been locked in for hundred (I still think it was way longer, no matter what you say, anime) years is completely understandable, and, though it does pain me to say it, so is wanting to meet new people and wanting to focus on them, after eternity with the same faces, no matter how much you love them.

That said, the way she pushes her dream onto Satoko, making them both go to school that is so incredibly ill-fitting for her, and then completely ignoring Satoko is just bad. Even worse at the second time, after Satoko explains to her why she doesn’t want to go (because she knows exactly what will happen) and Rika just kinda flips all her worries off, and tells her to come anyway, because it’s her ‘dream’ and that is...way more selfish than what I would expect from her.

Both wanting to go to new places and at the same time to keep someone familiar to you near are understandable things, and people change depending on the company they are in, but it seems Rika let her dream coming true blind her.

They both want to be together, but Rika seems to think they are, while in Satoko’s mind, they’re farther apart then ever before. If St. Lucia wasn’t the place it is, they probably could talk it out, but...

Satoko

Yeah, so...wow. I was spoiled to this by fucking youtube recommendations, but managed to avoid specifics, thankfully.

Wow. I don’t know how long it took for her to snap after being forced back into 1983, but...wow. Again.

Unlike Rika, she had nobody else. And keeping your memories from each loop is just horrible, so I’m not surprised that it happened seemingly soon. I wonder if it is ironic that her attitude is ‘traitors deserve death’ when that same attitude was what her family was treated with for so long. Maybe not.

Given that she probably still doesn’t know what really happened to Satoshi, being abandoned again, by her best friend (who promised to help her, whatever happens) is... yeah. She worked herself to the bone, to fulfill Rika’s dream, ignoring what she wanted in favor of that, and tried her best in general, only to be deemed (seemingly) not good enough to spent any time with after Rika got what she wanted.

And then she took a walk and ended up as the plaything of a witch. And everyone got dragged back to the endless bloodshed, because Auaurora wanted entertainment.

I really hate her at times.

On another note, the amount of gore is absolutely ridiculous.
